Asst. Prof. Emin İstif from Kadir Has University will be the next guest of the seminar series organized by KHAS Molecular Biology and Genetics Department with his speech “Implementation of Polymer Functional Materials for Bioelectronics and Sensing Applications” on Thursday, March 30 at 16:00 on Zoom.

Zoom ID: 868 0979 9447

Abstract: Tailoring the properties of a polymer material starts at the molecular level. The variations in the molecular level features can be translated to the materials by structural modification, which can open avenues for niche applications. Recently, the implementation of functional polymer materials for the miniaturization of electronic devices receives great interest. However, a fundamental understanding of the physical and chemical properties of a material is often needed for the development of such devices. Therefore, the successful development of novel polymer materials is crucial to fill the gap at the intersection of material chemistry and miniaturized bioelectronic or optoelectronic devices.

The first part of this talk will focus on the synthesis of various types of polymer material for their implementation into living plants to reveal bioelectronic applications. The second part of the talk will focus on the implementation of functional polymer materials in sensing applications. These studies shed light on the development of functional polymer materials and good control of materials properties for applications in future-generation bioelectronics as well as in potential devices for food and environmental sensors.

About the Speaker: Dr. Emin Istif obtained his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Eskişehir Osmangazi University in 2012, and his M.Sc degree in Chemistry from Yıldız Technical University in 2014. He received his PhD from University of Zaragoza, Spain in 2018. During his PhD, he worked on conjugated polymer charge-transfer complexes for photoelectrochemical applications. After graduating, Dr. Istif joined George Hadziioannou group in University of Bordeaux to synthesize novel conjugated polymers for implementation in living plants. For his second postdoctoral studies, he joined the Bio-Integrated Microdevices Laboratory in Koç University, where he developed miniaturized food sensors and biosensors. During his research in Koç University, Dr. Istif received best patent prize from Koç University Patent Competition in 2021.

In September, 2022 Dr. Istif joined Kadir Has University and establish his own lab. He received two grants (3501 and 1512) from TUBITAK as a coordinator. His research interest focuses on synthesis of polymer materials and their application in bioelectronics.  Dr. Istif has published 15 scientific articles in the Q1 journals such as Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Nature Communications, ACS Nano etc.
